Kirlian Photography
A Tool for Psychic Research ?

Conclusions

Before variations in Kirlian photographs can be convincingly attributed to emotional or psychic experiences, the variable involved in the technique must be controlled. Among the basic parameters wich can effect the Kirlian image are the following as demontrades in our Laboratory:

  1. voltage and line fluctuation;

  2. pulse width, pulse rate, and frequency or signal inside pulse;

  3. exposure time;

  4. type of film used;

  5. capacitance of the subject;

  6. pressure of the subject against film and electrostatic plate;

  7. angle of approach of the subject´s fingers tot he film and the plate;

  8. flatness of the film against the electrostatic plate;

  9. moisture and dirt on either the film, plate, or the subject´s fingers;

  10. body temperature;

  11. respiration;

  12. heartbeat;

  13. Other variables more difficult to control include gases in atmosphere, barometric pressure, and atmospheric temperature.

    This diverse list of variables is not necessarily complete. Insofar as significant variables are not controlled, conclusions and generalizations about experimental findings may not be accurate. This is particularly true regarding interpretations of mental states or healing energies, since evidence in the photographs may have resulted from totally unrelated and unknown phenomena.

    If the worldwide interest and attention focused on Kirlian photography will bring in new techniques of control and interpretation, then the possibility exists that a new scientific and diagnostic technology may develop. However, future aura research will need to be done along the lines of measuring the body´s own electromagnetic field and correlating this with studies of psychic visualization.
